Israeli occupation forces besieged Al-Shifa Medical Complex, which is the largest public healthcare facility in the Gaza Strip, housing three specialized hospitals: the Surgical Hospital, the Internal Medicine Hospital, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, with a total capacity of 564 beds.

On the evening of October 27, 2023, Israeli occupation forces launched a ground assault on the Gaza Strip. This attack occurred amidst a series of extensive Israeli airstrikes that disrupted mobile communications and internet access in Gaza. During the ground invasion, the occupation forces imposed a complete siege on the Shifa Medical Complex, preventing anyone from entering or exiting and continuously shelling some of its floors and the surrounding area.
