Al-Israa University is a Palestinian university established in 2014, with its main campus located in Al-Zahra City and other campuses in Al-Rimal and Al-Tufah neighborhoods in Gaza City.
During the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in 2023–2024, the university reported that the Israeli troops used its main building in Al-Zahra as a detention and sniper center for Palestinians, and as a military base for their vehicles for approximately 70 days. Then on January 18, 2024, they proceeded to blow up the building housing the undergraduate and graduate colleges.
The university's hospital building, medical, nursing, and engineering laboratories, cafeteria buildings, media training facilities, the courtroom designated for the College of Law, graduation halls, and the university mosque were also destroyed. The national museum, which housed approximately 3,000 artifacts, was also looted and vandalized.
The intermediate studies center in Al-Tufah neighborhood and the continuing education center in Al-Rimal neighborhood were also bombed and looted.
