Al-Quds Hospital, affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, is a medical facility located in the Tel Al-Hawa area of Gaza City.
On October 12, 2023: The Tel Al-Hawa area, including the street behind Al-Quds Hospital, was bombed, resulting in the martyrdom of 78 Palestinians.
On October 16, 2023: The vicinity of Al-Quds Hospital was subjected to multiple strikes by the Israeli army, as shown in visual materials published on social media. These attacks followed evacuation threats by the army, leading to the destruction of several buildings in the streets surrounding the hospital.
On October 18, 2023: The occupation forces issued a direct threat to the hospital. Less than 100 meters from the hospital building, intense airstrikes by Israeli warplanes shattered the hospital's glass and caused the false ceiling to collapse on the displaced individuals inside.
On October 20, 2023: The Palestinian Red Crescent Society received a threat from the occupation authorities to bomb Al-Quds Hospital and ordered its immediate evacuation. At the time, the hospital housed over 400 patients, approximately 12,000 displaced individuals, and medical staff.
On October 24, 2023: Al-Quds Hospital continued providing services to the wounded, injured, and displaced despite persistent Israeli threats to evacuate the hospital and the intense aerial bombardment of its surrounding area.
On October 30, 2023: The Israeli forces renewed their direct threat to evacuate the hospital and the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza. They demanded the evacuation of more than 14,000 displaced individuals. Despite this, the hospital continued to serve the wounded and displaced. The surrounding area, including the Red Crescent warehouses, was subjected to heavy aerial bombardment and attacks.
On November 2, 2023: Israeli occupation forces stationed to the south of Al-Quds Hospital randomly fired live ammunition at the hospital, penetrating the walls of the sixth floor and damaging central air conditioning units. Additionally, two displaced individuals (a young man and a child) were injured in the chest and abdomen due to the gunfire. On this day, the Israeli occupation forces continued their explicit threats to evacuate and bomb Al-Quds Hospital and the Palestinian Red Crescent headquarters, putting more than 14,000 displaced individuals at risk. Several residential towers adjacent to the hospital were targeted from the eastern side, causing significant damage to the hospital building and operations. Despite the ongoing heavy bombardment, the hospital remained operational.
On November 3, 2023: Israeli warplanes carried out several intense airstrikes on the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Al-Quds Hospital in the early morning hours. The bombings shattered hospital glass, injuring displaced persons inside. Emergency teams treated 21 injuries within the hospital, and displaced individuals suffered from panic attacks. The hospital continued its operations despite the heavy bombardment.
On November 4, 2023: Israeli warplanes continued targeting the Al-Quds Hospital and Red Crescent areas, escalating the immense challenges faced by working teams and threatening the lives of displaced persons. The hospital’s main entrances were bombed by Israeli airstrikes. Despite the heavy bombardment, the hospital continued its work.
On November 5, 2023: Israeli forces continued bombing the area surrounding the hospital, targeting a residential building northwest of it. Five ambulances and Palestinian Red Crescent vehicles sustained severe damage and ceased operation due to the bombardment. The attack destroyed the intensive care unit on the third and fourth floors of the hospital. Nine displaced individuals inside the hospital were injured by shrapnel. Despite continuous threats of bombing, the hospital remained operational.
On November 7, 2023: Bombing around the hospital continued from distances of no more than 50 meters for over a week, resulting in at least 60 injuries among hospital staff, patients, and displaced persons. The hospital building, ambulances, and relief vehicles sustained significant damage. Israeli forces carried out intensive bombardments from all directions, closing most access roads to the hospital, which created obstacles for medical teams. A convoy from the International Committee of the Red Cross attempting to deliver medical supplies to Al-Quds Hospital was fired upon, damaging two vehicles and injuring a driver.
On November 8, 2023: The occupation forces targeted a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance.
On November 9, 2023: The hospital administration decided to reduce most hospital services to ration fuel consumption. Emergency room operations were halted for the third consecutive day due to communication service outages and VHF signal interference.
On November 10, 2023: The area surrounding the hospital was bombed by Israeli warplanes, destroying the intensive care unit. The occupation forces tightened the siege on the hospital and directly targeted displaced persons with snipers and armored vehicles.
On November 11, 2023: Electricity was cut off from Al-Quds Hospital due to generator failures caused by bombardment. Israeli forces intensified their siege by advancing toward the hospital’s entrance and directly attacking it with live ammunition, targeting the intensive care unit and displaced persons inside, resulting in multiple injuries. The occupation forces besieged the hospital’s clinics and shot anyone moving outside. A displaced individual at the hospital entrance was fatally shot. Israeli warplanes intensified bombing around the Red Crescent headquarters and Al-Quds Hospital. Marwan Jilani, Director General of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, stated that Israeli forces had killed one person and wounded 30 others with direct gunfire. Infant patients suffered from dehydration due to a lack of milk. The hospital continued reducing its services due to fuel shortages.
On November 12, 2023: The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced that Al-Quds Hospital was completely out of service due to fuel depletion and power outages. Displaced individuals were evacuated following a week-long siege by Israeli forces. The forced evacuation followed a predetermined route south, dictated by the occupation forces. Despite critical shortages of medical supplies, food, and water, hospital staff did their utmost to provide care using traditional medical techniques. Communications were cut off for five days, and international appeals for urgent assistance went unanswered.
On November 13, 2023: The occupation forces intensified the siege on Al-Quds Hospital by advancing toward its entrance and continuing live fire attacks. A joint convoy from the Palestinian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, en route to evacuate the wounded from Al-Quds Hospital, was stopped and forced to turn back, leaving patients, families, and medical personnel trapped inside. Despite securing clearance, the occupation forces denied the convoy access, citing a "security incident." Thousands of displaced individuals were forced to leave the hospital on foot, heading south.
On November 14, 2023: The hospital remained under siege, with approximately 300 people trapped under Israeli bombardment. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society evacuated around 200 people from Al-Quds Hospital to Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. The forced displacement journey took seven hours, partially on foot.
On November 19, 2023, the Palestinian Red Crescent announced the cessation of operations in all hospitals in Gaza, primarily Al-Quds and Al-Shifa hospitals, due to the siege, the forced displacement of medical staff, and the prevention of providing medical services.
On November 27, 2023, the spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, Mahmoud Basal, stated that hundreds of bodies remain in the vicinity of Al-Quds Hospital.
Between February 14 and 16, 2024, Al-Quds Hospital sustained damage due to Israeli bombardment in its vicinity and direct strikes on various parts and sections of the hospital. The hospital remained non-operational.
On July 12, 2024, Israeli forces were stationed around Al-Quds Hospital and opened fire toward houses in the area.
On July 30, 2024, Israeli forces destroyed a medical point affiliated with Al-Quds Hospital in Al-Shuja’iya after taking the hospital out of service. A hospital staff member reported that the forces continue to target several medical points established by the hospital.
On October 31, 2024, Israeli artillery bombarded the area around Al-Quds Hospital.
On November 28, 2024, Israeli forces targeted the area around Al-Quds Hospital with airstrikes.
