Israeli occupation forces arrested the men, while the fate of the women and children remains unknown. He reveals the torture endured by Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli occupation, including deprivation of sleep, food, and the ability to relieve themselves, as well as beatings and having cold water poured on them. Their eyes are continuously covered, and their hands are bound, preventing them from perceiving their surroundings or time. During interrogations, they are forced to stand on stones.

The old section lies on the eastern side, while the modern extension is on the western side. The mosque was named after Sheikh Khaled bin Shabeeb, who died in 749 AH (1348 CE). Sheikh Jaqmaq, the ancestor of the now-extinct Jaqmaq family, is also buried within the mosque. During the 1960s, under Egyptian administration of Gaza, part of the mosque was demolished to allow for street expansion, which reduced its size.

On 11 April 2024, Israeli occupation aircraft targeted Sheikh Khaled Mosque in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of eastern Gaza City, resulting in partial damage to the mosque.

Al-Khulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque – Jabalia

Al-Khulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque is located in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. It is considered one of the most prominent mosques in the area, playing a central role in the religious and social life of the local community since its establishment in 1985. The mosque also played a significant role in the struggle against the Israeli occupation during the Palestinian Intifada, which earned it great symbolic importance among the camp’s residents.

On December 1, 2023, Israeli occupation aircraft targeted Al-Khulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque in Jabalia, leading to its destruction. On May 21, 2024, the area surrounding the mosque in Jabalia was subjected to heavy artillery shelling, resulting in the complete destruction of the mosque.

Holy Family Latin Church – Gaza

The Holy Family Latin Church is the only Catholic church in Gaza City. Israeli occupation forces conducted an air raid around the church during a service with civilians and their children inside, causing panic among the worshippers and severe damage to the location.

Al-Zafar Damri Mosque – Gaza

Al-Zafar Damri Mosque is one of the oldest and most significant Islamic and archaeological landmarks in Gaza Strip, located in Al-Shujaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City. The mosque, along with many other historical mosques in Gaza Strip, was deliberately targeted by Israeli occupation forces in an attempt to erase Gaza’s history and civilization.

During the 2014 war, the mosque suffered near-total destruction, with 80% of its structure demolished. This included the destruction of the modern section of the mosque, built in 2010, which housed the library, minaret, some columns, and the iwans located on the western side, constructed from clay and stones.

In 2015, the mosque was restored at the expense of charitable donors, with careful attention to its original architectural details, following the ancient Mamluk style as it was more than 600 years ago.

In 2023, during the genocidal war, the mosque was completely destroyed due to airstrikes by Israeli warplanes and artillery shelling in the area surrounding the mosque and nearby regions.

Senior Israeli officials, including the Prime Minister, the President, and the Minister of Defense, have publicly used dehumanizing and sweeping language to describe Palestinians, signaling their intent to destroy and displace the population of Gaza. They have imposed a relentless siege, deliberately depriving them of the basic living conditions necessary for human survival. Even more alarming, Netanyahu cited the biblical story of “Amalek” to justify the killings in Gaza.
