Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis is one of the hospitals operated by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. Located in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, it was established in 1997.
In January 2024, Israeli occupation troops besieged the hospital, maintaining the siege until mid-March 2024. During this period, the troops bombed several hospital facilities multiple times, killing some of those trapped inside. The troops subsequently stormed the hospital, arresting several medical staff members and others, and forced the remaining occupants, including over 7,000 displaced individuals, to leave.
On March 24, 2024, the troops re-imposed the siege on the hospital, killing paramedics amidst intense bombing and heavy gunfire directed at the hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported a complete loss of communication with its staff inside the hospital.
On March 26, 2024, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that the hospital was out of service due to a complete shutdown following the Israeli army's invasion of hospital facilities and the blocking of its entrances with earthen berm.
On April 7, 2024, the Israeli army announced its withdrawal from Khan Younis, including from Al-Amal Hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported extensive destruction both inside and outside the hospital, including damage to ambulances, the reception area, and the physical therapy department, as well as complete and partial destruction of the hospital's surroundings and nearby homes. They stated, "The hospital has become incapable of providing services to patients and the wounded due to the invasion and the forcible expulsion of everyone present using weapons and tear gas."
