Al-Ahli Arab Hospital has been operating since 1882. It was established by the Missionary Church Society of the Church of England and was later managed by the Southern Baptist denomination as a medical mission from 1954 to 1982. In the 1980s, the hospital came under the management of the Anglican Church.
On October 17, 2023, the hospital was subjected to bombardment by Israeli occupation aircraft, resulting in a truly horrific Israeli massacre. The bodies of displaced victims inside the hospital were torn apart and burned beyond recognition. Israeli occupation forces had previously forced residents of northern Gaza to flee southward, leading many to seek refuge in the hospital as a safe haven.
Additionally, Israeli occupation forces issued evacuation orders to the hospital and 21 other hospitals in Gaza Strip. This led to a shortage of doctors and nurses within the hospital, leaving the condition of patients and the wounded dire.
