In November 2023, following an attack by Israeli occupation troops on Al-Shifa Hospital, the director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Doctor Mohammad Abu Silmiya, along with several medical staff members, was detained. He was subjected to torture for refusing to film videos admitting that Al-Shifa Complex was a military base for Palestinian factions. The occupation forces broke Doctor Silmiya's arms and forced him to walk on both hands and knees, bound a chain around his neck, and compelled him to eat from a plate on the ground in a manner similar to animals that walk on all fours.
