This section documents the crimes targeting Palestinian children during the war on the Gaza Strip, including indiscriminate attacks and bombings that resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of innocent children. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated that the Gaza Strip has become the most dangerous place for children in the world, and a UNICEF official said, "A child suffering from illness in Gaza is condemned to a slow death because they cannot receive the treatment they need, and it is unlikely they will survive long enough to leave." Since October 7, 2023, Israeli occupation forces have killed more than sixteen thousand Palestinian children.
Child Yazan Kafarna
Child Yazan Kafarna was martyred due to the deterioration of his health caused by malnutrition amid the ongoing blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip.
Yazan Kafarna, a child with cerebral palsy from Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza Strip, required a diet of soft foods with high nutritional value. His family was displaced multiple times to provide suitable food for him, with their last stop in Rafah Governorate. Kafarna was admitted to Abu Yusuf Al-Najar Hospital in Rafah before passing away ten days later due to malnutrition.
Correspondents from The New York Times described Yazan Kafarna after photos taken of him before his death, noting that he appeared emaciated, pale, and gaunt, with skin stretched over every bony curve, showing signs of being underweight. One of the most widely circulated images online shows his right hand with a visible vein.
